Natalia Zaretsky writes of a life split in half, of two worlds-one
Russian ("my first forty-year chapter in Russia"),
one American ("a new breath of Western air")-and
what she has made of them. City of Naked Feelings
is a full testament of her affections, a healing work
of art that echoes with biblical themes and closes a
circle of remembrance.

In self-portraits underpinned by the sorrow known
only to those who have left their homelands, Natalia
Zaretsky writes "from one soul to another,"
having recognized that "there is no heavier burden
// than the weight of unremembering." Created "not
for a touch, but for a glance," her poems unfold
to reveal surprising depths and resonance. The spell
conjured for a former lover has also been cast on her
readers: "May the taste of my skin remain on your
/ tongue even after you forget my name."

at Salisbury University
